Happy Halloweeeeeeen!!!

I am not going to lie Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I used to like it when the costumes were cute and creative, not throw on a scary mask and you are some dead something. Then when I got to college it was just an excuse to dress a little skimpy. Then I meet Jason and he loves Halloween and scary movies. So, this year I attempted to make more of an effort to get into this holiday. It started on Friday where we decided on our couple costumes, which this year we decided to be an angel and a devil. It wasn’t much of a costume for me, since I am often mistaken for an angel ;) We got all our gear Friday night and we even got the dogs some Halloween shirts…they weren’t too happy about them. Then Saturday afternoon we went to Laura’s 2nd annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. This year we were not allowed to use stencils….so I brought a stencil of a snowflake and free handed 95% of my pumpkin. Jason decided on the batman sign. We were much better and more confident carving this year, compared to last year (which was my first year ever really carving a pumpkin). Last year we made a Superman sign and a Christmas tree…you try and figure our who made what :) Since Jason used a stencil for his and I traced one tiny piece of mine we lost some points. So, we didn’t win this year, but I don’t think I will ever win—because the winner’s pumpkin got points for being Halloween themed….a scared cat.. I mean come on. It doesn’t really get more creative than a snowflake…oh well I loved it and that is all that matters.

After the carving we came home to get our gear on. It was pretty fun getting dressed, since I had to paint Jason’s face red. At first it looked like he had the measels, then a really bad sun burned and finally he was starting to look devilish. It was a lot of fun helping Jason get into costume, because he was just soo excited to be dressing up. The last time we dressed up he was superman and I was a Christmas tree in 2007…notice a pattern :). After spending about an hour or more getting him painted and beard glued on I got ready in like 15 minutes… like I said being an angel comes natural to me—not a lot of dressing up. Then we were off. We were only 2 hours late to his brother’s Halloween movie party. We got there and took some pictures and before you know it I was changing into comfy clothes and Jason’s beard was off…all that for only a few minutes in full costume….oh well the main thing is Jason was so excited to get dressed up it made up for all of it!

Sunday, we hung around and watched the poor Cowboys…bless their hearts..they are just no bueno this year. Then off to 5 o clock mass. After mass we rushed home to post up in Jason’s office, which is much closer to our front door, to pass out candy. We got a pretty good amount of trick or treaters. All in all it was a really great Halloween weekend. I even watched way more than my 1 scary movie per year quota… I think I watched like 4 or 5!

Now just 1 more holiday until my favorite holiday ever… CHRISTMAS!!!

P.S. Jason just saw Bernard (the elf from the Santa Clause) in the Adam’s Family Value and said I can’t wait to watch the Santa Clause… I love him :)

Five Question Friday!!

Yay it's Five Question Friday!!!

I thought I would take a little break from organizing... I have organized our hall closet and most of Jason's office...now I am just trying to get the house cleaned up for Jason's birthday party tomorrow...

1. D
id you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it?
Well I used to have a lamb chop baby that you could play with as a puppet and she would suck on her pacifier. My parents just gave her back to me in the BOXES AND BOXES of stuff I had at their house from BIRTH! I also had a lot of stuffed animals and I have a lot of the ones that mean a lot to me.

2. Do you dream in color?
I am pretty sure I do...but I will look into that to make sure.

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller?
Well, I thought I was 5'6" but last time I went to the doctor they said 5'7"--I'll take it. I am pretty content with my height...but if I had to choose I would be a few inches taller.

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be?
hmmmmmm Johnny Depp has a nice accent...some others would be... Will Smith, Ben Affleck, or a comedian like Steve Carrell or
Zach Galifianakis

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?
It depends how close it is... I really try and do my best to take it back or give it to someone, but if it's really far and I'm in a hurry I have been known to leave it...

Disgustingly weird accidental find!!!

image So you might be thinking why in the world do I have this picture up…..well I was looking at our blog and admiring our  6 followers and our 1 comment average on each post…thanks to my loyal friend Katie all the way in JAPAN!! Well, I thought I don’t have anything to really write right now, so I will be adventurous and click on the next blog…..it was an entire blog dedicated tooooo extra long fingernails (which is not practical, but not out of the ordinary) but then there were pictures of extra long toenails….that is when I think I threw up in my mouth a little. It does not help that I hate feet, but here is the grossest picture of feet..especially the lady picking up a banana. The reason this is so bad/gross/disgusting is because people choose to do this to their feet…it’s not like they are born with gross looking feet…no they chose to hide or throw out their clippers and grow those claws out. It is just unexplainable and I thought I would share…

What do you think about long toenails? Sexy or disgusting?? Ok if you must see it from another angle… here ya go…

Now what do think :)

Miscellaneous Monday

MMbutton3

Ok so you might recall Friday’s post I got the idea from my friend Sara….well here is another one I saw her doing on her blog and will now do too…don’t worry  I have confessed my desire to be like her/ copy her :)

The gist of miscellaneous Monday is just that… I talk about a few random things—if you know me you know that I am amazing at being random and talking…so here it goes…

ORGANIZATION:

So ever since I got back from helping the rents organize and set up their new house in Ohio I have been on an organizing craze. This is the first summer since I began teaching where I don’t have a million things going on and I’m not wedding planning anymore…so I have been able to focus on doing things to help make the house work for us. Since we are on a tighter budget this year with plane trips and buying a new car I chose to organize—it is free to do! I have organized all closets, drawers, and cabinets in this house. I have one more closet left….the front hall closet…which still has boxes that I never unpacked from when I moved in a year and a half ago…it’s on the to do list for this week! I will have some before and after pictures of my progress coming soon.

Cooking:

During the school year I just could never find the time to really cook outside my comfort level…which is basically just cooking chicken and a side of veggies or browning meat for nachos. So, when I got back from Ohio I had Jason come up with something he wanted for dinner-it was partly because I had been gone 3 weeks and I wanted to make something nice for him and 2 I needed something to motivate me to attempt cooking more than the usual. So, far I have made lasagana and enchilada casserole. Since, cooking doesn’t come natural to me I am a recipe follower to a T. I can’t wing things or think I know how much of certain things to put. Right now I am just attempting one new dish a week and it working nicely. I am trying to collect some recipes that I can try during the school year!

Routine:

Today I had to wake up at 7 and be somewhere from 8:30-4 for a workshop that was boring…but that’s another story. While there I was talking with some friends from my school about why it’s been so hard for me to lose weight during the summer. (side note: I’m really good at making excuses….but I think this one is legit—well I think all my excuses are legit, but this one really really is!) The reason I think it has been hard for ME (no one else might have this problem and it might sound silly to others) is that during the school year I have a routine established…for example I eat the same thing for lunch everyday—usually a salad or sandwich and fruit and then most days I leave school at 4:45 to get to the gym for a workout class. Then by the time I get home at 7ish after the gym not much time for a heavy dinner so I do something light. This happens most everyday during the school year…ok well it happened after January most everyday when I got back to the gym………..well during the summer I have so much more time to eat than my 30 minute lunch during the school year so I can meet up with the hubby for lunch or friends. Then I have time to cook rich delish meals or meet up with friends for dinner. During the school year it is so easy for me to be like time to leave school and head to the gym, because by 4:45 I’m tired of being at school and the gym is good excuse (see how good I am at those) of getting out of school. Well, during the summer it’s harder for me to get motivated to stop organizing, watching tv, or blogging to change clothes and go to the gym…just not as eager to leave the house. Also, my schedule this summer has been crazy—I’m free a few days, then I have errands, or I have workshops, or I go to Ohio….looooong random story short I need to get back into a routine—that is where I thrive!

I am going to stop there, since some of my random things got long winded when I get on my excuse soap box :)

Five Question Friday.....I'm such a follower :)

Like the title says I am a follower when it comes to blogging ideas.....hence this blog. My friend
Sara has done it the past two weeks and well it's time I copy her. Plus, I am a sucker for these questioniares...use to do them on the myspace alll the time..when you know it was the cool thing to do! So here it goes....

1. What were your school colors?
In high school they were red, black and white--Go Warriors and in College they were maroon and gold-- Eatem Up Cats and now at Deepwood where I teach they are green and white--Go Dinos!!

2. What's the best compliment you ever received?
Well, I usually shy away from compliments or point out at a negative when I get one....but today my friend Laura posted on my fb wall that she misses me everyday...it's those kind of random compliments that I love... I didn't have to set her up to give me on, she just thought about me and posted...that's why I love her and when I get those random compliments either face to face (but prepare for me to be awkward), via text of the fb...either way I enjoy getting them!

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?
We buy angel...so wherever that brand falls I'm not real sure....I think it's right in the middle...toilet paper is a tricky thing to buy-- you don't want to thick and you don't want to thin...decisions decisions.

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?
I've never really had one thrown for me, but would love one hint hint :) I helped my mom throw one for my dad's 50th birthday, I was apart of Arielle's once (I didn't really help, just showed up as wendy from Peter Pan) and I threw Jason a mini one last summer for his Birthday.

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?
My iphone..... it is so unbelievably helpful...I mean I don't know how many times in New York Jason and I relied on our phones for directions of places to eat, then in Ohio it was used to google many of directions, and well it's just so helpful... I can just hear my mom now--- that phone has never been out of your hand once or people don't know how to be social because your generation relies on technology....just comments from a non iphoner :)

Well, there you have it my first 5 question Friday.......if you know of any other trendy blog topics to do throughout the week you just let me know... like I said I am like a pro at these :)

Familia Time in Ohio!!!

So, it has been over a week since I got back from spending 3 weeks in Ohio with my parents. I haven’t blogged about it yet, because when I got home I hit the ground running and spent the last week organizing different rooms, closets, drawers, and cabinets in my house (can’t believe I still had it in me, after doing it for 3 weeks at my parents house!)…blog with pictures on my projects later..so stay tuned for those in an upcoming blog.

My parents moved to Ohio because my dad got relocated to Wright Patt Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. They bout a house that was built in the 1950’s from the man who built it (we got to meet him..he is 94!). The house has great bones, but just needs some updating. We spent our days unpacking box after box after box and deciding what DIY project we would work on. Since, my mom is a newly discovered Dishaholic we decided we should get the kitchen just the way she wants it (for the time being) and then unpack all her million kitchen boxes. So, we painted the walls a brown and we painted the kitchen cabinets a creamy white. Before this project I thought I wanted to paint my kitchen cabinets, not anymore…it is so difficult with cabinets because you have drips and they stick to what you paint on and all kinds of set backs…we will just get knobs for our cabinets and call it a day. Here are some pictures of the kitchen before and after:

Here are the before pictures (we had already taken the doors off the cabinets)

IMGP0022 IMGP0028 IMGP0027 IMGP0026

Here are alllllllllllllll the doors I primed:

Almost finished (we didn’t get to put the doors back on before I left):IMGP0138 IMGP0136IMGP0139 IMGP0137

After I primed the cabinets I got kinda bored with painting, well really I didn’t want to mess up the final product, so I moved on to organizing—which I found I liked doing. I organized both my mom and dad’s closets (yes they have separate closets…maybe they are clothesaholics too :)Then I organized their bathrooms…and believe it or not I was able to make all my mom’s Bath and Body work lotions fit!

We did take a few breaks to have some fun too and that is what the following pictures are from:

We visited my dad at his new office at Wright Patt Air Force Base!!

The neighbors on their private lane threw them a welcome to the block party. The man below is the man who built my parents house in the 50’s and lived in it until last year. He was so cute and sharp for being 94!!!

Some more family shots before I left for the airport:

IMGP0160 IMGP0163   IMGP0161One thing I don’t get from my dad…his awkward picture taking…oh but I love him anyway :)

I had an amazing time helping them get set up! I was so glad that I was able to be there and help my mom get her DIY projects rolling. I am already excited to see what it will look like at Christmas. I am working on getting a blog started for my parents, so they can blog about their projects and progress on the house and how things are in Ohio…even though they don’t have Lebron anymore ;) I love my family so much!!

I know when I leave, the distance will keep us apart. But distance, no matter how far, can't change that I love you with all my heart!
